Language Umbrella was formed in 2009 with the aim of helping to tell stories and inspire learning, and since then it has worked with prestigious clients, such as Oxford University Press, Pearson Education, Harper Collins and Santillana Publishing to name but a few, but also we get our hands dirty too and believe in mixing it up with other projects, most recently delivering free teacher development training in rural Uganda...
We believe that life is too short and too much fun to be stuck doing the same old thing, so we put up our umbrella and set out our stall and haven't looked back since...

Content Creation
As our name suggests, we're experts at using language and media to woo and wow, and cover all bases: we can produce absolutely any type of content, ranging from simple copy up to complete books or courses, from podcasts to any moving image or media product. We specialise in English language services and teaching, and have created and produced lots of coursebooks, graded readers and print and online/digital interactive learning design, ranging from kindergarten, through Primary and Secondary up to Young Adult and Adult learners. We are open to any project, and promise to surprise, delight and exceed your expectations.

I have worked in publishing and education for nearly twenty years as a writer, editor and trainer.
My specialisms are Primary/Young Learners, CLIL and drama, and I am involved in a range of varied and exciting print and digital projects at Language Umbrella.
I project manage a lot of editorial jobs as Director, but also write, train and develop materials, including courses, readers, drama scripts, and interactive learning projects. I am also an experienced presenter at conferences in many countries, and was also a researcher on the EU-funded LingoBee mobile app project SIMOLA.

Tom Ottway, Director.
I have worked in teaching, publishing and education for twenty years as a teacher/trainer, presenter, writer and content producer in ELT and FE/HE.
My specialisms are course , assessment, and content design, EdTech, sound design, songwriting and production, app development, Young Adults and Adults, Literature, Film and Media Studies, and EAP, but I really enjoy working in Primary & Secondary as well. My best-selling course book is Elevator for Richmond Publishing. As a bit of a tech geek, I do a lot of developmental /digital project work for Language Umbrella.
Rebecca and I are long-time collaborators as trainers, writers, producers and creatives from course books to a collaborative threatre-in-education production of Macbeth in the Yemen back in the late 90s for the British Council.
